We either charge a fixed fee or a conditional fee agreement for cases involving judicial review proceedings or higher. CFA arrangements, where applicable, will be entered at the inception of the case and will depend on the success of the case where, if the case is lost, you will pay a smaller fixed amount and will pay the full rate if the case is successful of between £275-375 per hour.
Our fees and timescales may be varied where:
Case papers are served or provided with further evidence/information that makes a case more complex than initially instructed
There are more court hearings than initially agreed or anticipated – such as a part-heard or return date
We will always discuss any variations in fees with you prior to billing.
The key stages of work are according to the work involved and the timescales are dictated by which judicial or government department is involved.
We have noticed a significant decrease in the speed with which cases are dealt with by the County Courts, as they deal with a significant delay due in part by the Coronavirus pandemic and the following backlog.
We will also advise you if your case may be eligible for legal aid and refer you to another organisation that may be able to assist you with this if you cannot afford to instruct us directly.
You can find more information on legal aid and how to apply on the gov.uk website.
VAT is added at the current rate of: 20%
There is a variation in whether individual barristers are VAT registered or not. Please check with chambers for an indication of any VAT registration.
